St. John the Baptist - Niton
The church is in the centre of the lively village of
Niton. The village has shops, doctors’ surgery,
pharmacy, public library run by a team of volunteers,
two public houses, Methodist and Baptist churches
and a large primary school with some 200 children
in attendance, plus a nursery for pre-school
children. There are currently approximately 1,200
people living in the village covering all age groups.
The Church is 12th Century with Saxon beginnings
and is well-maintained.
It underwent a full refurbishment in 2000 and recently added a kitchen and toilet to the premises. The tower
and steeple have recently been restored with the help of much fundraising and a Lottery Grant.
Our worship consists of services of Holy Communion from Common Worship, All Age and Evensong. There
are additional seasonal services, especially at Christmas, when the Primary School holds its Carol Service in
the church (attendance usually about 300 people); we provide an Advent Service as a culmination to the
village Lantern Procession at the start of Advent (attendance usually in the region of 200 people), a Crib
Service on Christmas Eve (attendance 200 people) and a Family Service on Christmas Day.
