St. Lawrence parish Church and Old Church St Lawrence Old Church 12th Century once the smallest parish church building in England until extended in Victorian times. St Lawrence Parish church designed by Gilbert Scott with splendid pre-Raphaelite stained-glass windows with a set of carillon bells. Both churches open daily. Mainly central churchmanship, using Common Worship Order 1. with Book of Common prayer used at Evening worship.
Situated in the south of the IOW – SSSI AONB and conservation area within the undercliff. The last landslide in 2014 means St Lawrence has no through road and is therefore a quiet and peaceful place and popular with walkers as it is situated on the IOW coastal path with many local walks. The Peace Garden, next to the old Church provides a sanctuary for people to sit and reflect and is supported by local volunteers on a monthly working party to keep it in order. The land is owned by the church. We are a popular retirement area and with many holiday lets /second homes. The local village shop providing excellent community support. Village hall with church representation on hall committee. The Binnel studios offering work spaces for local artists including potters and sculptors and has an open day in August that is very popular. The Botanic Gardens is within the parish boundary, developed on the site of the old Royal National chest hospital and popular with tourists and locals.
